Japan is a country prepared for earthquakes. Strict guidelines govern new building construction and its citizens are regularly instructed on what to do and how to behave. Nevertheless, nobody was ready for what 2011 had in store for the country. That year, on March the 11th, a powerful earthquake off the north-eastern coast triggered a huge tsunami, resulting in a massive number of casualties and the destruction of a nuclear power plant in Fukushima. In the wake of the frightening event, many foreign residents decided to leave the country, fearing the worst was yet to come. On that day many lives changed forever, including those of friends and book club buddies - Charlotte, Lauren, Fumiko, Katherine and Sinéad. The five friends had planned to meet on the following Wednesday to discuss their book of the month, Middlemarch, but that get-together was not meant to be. They didn't lose their homes or their loved ones in the disaster, but the seismic event shook them to their core. This is the story of the five women and how they each reshaped their lives in the aftermath of this shattering event.

This is about a man, his lost love, the imperfect world he lives in, and how he finds his true love after he discovers his true self and life's purpose when he realized that much of the world's imperfections are caused by lack of love for others, fueled by greed and selfishness, which cause social cancer. Anton Hinirang was unhappy for the last twenty-four years, after losing his first and only love, when Marian's parents forced her to marry someone with money and stature. Decades later, not even success could make Anton happy. When his unhappiness was complicated by tragic events that happened to his father and two siblings, caused by his country's social ills, it woke and changed Anton forever. It led to his self-discovery of his life's purpose, which in turn led him to find his true love. In its core, the story is about love, how its absence can render a person's life unhappy and miserable, and how lack of love in people's hearts, especially among leaders, can cause poverty and misery among many in society and the world.

If someone had the tactile gift of finding painted prehistoric caves, he'd be torn apart between, on the one hand, talking others into following him and, on the other, crawling, wriggling, clawing, and sweating his way to the next trove. Alin Cristian sees in this the writer's condition: one works one's way to a vision, encased as the latter always is in obstructing matter. As for the value of this vision, only one thing is certain: those who have time to talk about it weren't graced with either the speleologist's feverish hands, or with his sense of urgency. Other caves clawed out of darkness by the same author include The Transcript, Silvestralia and The Lowest Country.
